The primary objective of the  Columbus Black International Film Festival is to showcase Black filmmakers locally, nationally and internationally while, highlighting a spectrum of stories told by people of the African diaspora. This festival will also provide an advantage for filmmakers and the community to learn about the film industry through educational workshops and panel discussions, a safe space to showcase film and an opportunity to network with the filmmakers in the city. This festival will showcase new and emerging talent as well as talent that has represented our city for years. For more information please visit YOUNG FRENCH CINEMA is a program of UniFrance and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, which aims to bring French films with no US distribution to art house cinemas, film societies, the Alliance Française network, and American universities. Young French Cinema offers a selection of today’s best French films and filmmakers. The program focuses specifically on rising talents from France, from high-profile independent works, to powerful documentaries and quirky discoveries. Columbus Documentary Week 2020 will be held March 19 to 29 at Gateway Film Center. Fun, kid-friendly spooky films with thrills and chills the whole family will enjoy. The beloved summer family film series returns for its ninth year in 2019! Gateway Film Center has again partnered with Columbus Metropolitan Library to promote reading, family together time, and appreciation of great movies with our celebrated summer series, From Book to Film. From May 24 – August 22, the series will feature a movie inspired by a great book every day, all summer long. Admission is free with a library card (up to 4 admissions). Here’s how it works: - On the first Saturday of every month, filmmakers, friends, and fans gather in the Gateway Film Center – $5 to get in. - Filmmakers enter their shorts the Wednesday before each event by giving the facilitator an online screening link – YouTube or Vimeo. - A maximum of eight movies are screened per month – 10 minute max runtime. - Submissions are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. - After screening all shorts for the evening, the audience votes on its favorite. - The winner gets the door – all $5 covers paid for that night, with the chance to be chosen as the year’s best overall short. In 2016, the film center presented Ghibli at GFC, a four-month screening series of anime giant Studio Ghibli’s films.
