I really want to watch the movie but like most I feel like I just did, and protecting the idea by saying its a well known story kinda spoils it for me, believing this was an original idea and getting to experience it for the first time. A long, guttural growl of nature blared above the raging thunder, wobbling the boat like a bug on a speaker. A spree of suds surged from the mass and stormed onto the deck, causing them both to drop the net and start scattering with sequaky boots nearly slipping each step. The two stood stopped, stiff like statues as a pair of massive, gibbous, glowing green eyes peered from the foam and bathed them in jade spot lights, retaining its glare as it continued to rise, uprooting tentacles upon tentacles from the sea like a tree from soil. A vague humanoid frame emerging while the bubbles slowly receded to reveal a noseless, piranha like head nearly touching the clouds. WHACK “OW! ” “Good going, captain! ” *“It's not a monster. It was business as usual for the officer who watched cynically from his car as he nursed his coffee. Well, it would be normal, if he could find out what stupid kid was throwing rocks, it must be close, he can hear it, a dull but heavy thud. He peered around the coastal apartments before opening his car door and looking at the roofs. No dents, no rocks on the floor, a grumbling glare over took him as he went to take another sip of his drink. A thud rippled the black surface causing him to pause. Anglers 's a giant fish monster down here” People jogged away from it, looking over their shoulders as other broke into sprints, shoving and pushing one another, dropping everything on their person in their wake. A few cars turned around while the few stuck in the traffic at the turning short of the monsters feet sat indecisively. One lone mountain of a man ran with gusto before giving up and sitting at the bus stop a few meters away. His face made it clear he resigned to himself whatever fate had in plan for him rather than continue exerting himself. The giant slowly parted its jaw, barely spreading its long, needle like teeth an inch away from each other as its widen its mouth enough to swallow a small apartment block. Do you have anything for us? ” The anchor said excitedly. A field reporter with a stiff look of shock and glistening layer of sweat you'd get if you were getting a prostrate exam by a buff snow man smiled back on camera. “ monster now dubbed officially by the military as the X-nomaly” Someone audibly groans nearby; both the anchor and the field journalist look around but return to form in an attempt to brush it off “Has been slow on its advance but so far causalities have been minimal due to the speedy timing of the emergency services” Disappointment dulled her eyes at the good news. Her hair instantly loses some of its shine as her shoulders slightly deflate despite her barbie like smile remaining strong "That's great! " She lied. “Oh! it looks like the military is about to engage the monster! ” Reed wheezed out as the anxiety hit mixed with weak excitement. Her body instantly flushed with a healthy glow as her eyes shimmered at the prospect of violence. Green cameo tanks ploughed cars, rubble and a single lunatic still sitting at a bus bench out of the way as the treads marched on, those directly in their path being pulped like crumbled paper. A loud static voice rattles out from a microphone “READY” The monster turns to peer down at the vehicles, making them shimmer green as the water reflects on the hard edges of their thick hulls. A audible clicking of mechanism sounds out as the heads of the tank twitch slightly into locked firing positions. “AIM” The tanks are all still now, saluting towards it with their guns while a ground trembling growl cooks in its throat, rising in volume as the mouth widens, showing that same dim light within. Glowing more intensely with each passing mill-second. “WAIT! ” The solder with the microphone retreats into the tank for a moment before rising up, waving a scabbard at the other tanks then the helicopter "NEEDED MY SWORD READY! " A thud is heard as something distracts the officer inside and the muffled reprimand of another man can he heard on through the mic “What the fuck are you doing. Tell us to fire! ” “FIRE! ” Windows shatter as the barrels burst, puffing smoke like a dragons sneeze., The monster body rattles as it is stoned with explosives. Large vaporous clouds drift upwards before slowly dispersing Where holes should be, light scuffs and weak bruises are instead. The last of the smoke clears from around its face showing a blooming green maw with a shimmering light deep within now growing in intensity. The tanks start rolling back before the creature breaks into a full scream, rising in pitch until every single bit of glass that was intacted on in the nearby streets shatter again under the frequency. Nearby a man screams to god why as he runs out the “Windows and Vases” store. A ray springs forward at the defenders, engulfing the first row of tanks and slowly advancing forward with the malicious intent of a kid with a magnify glass over ants and to much the same effect as each new engulfed tank is left a burning wreckage. Reeds pokes in front of the camera again, twitching randomly at times stares blankly at the floor “Dear god they sent me out here to die” He mutters with a breathless shock “Um, Reed, you ok” The cameraman ask before Reeds sweaty hands wrestle for the camera, snuffing it out as the immediate bickering of the reporter and the film crew can be heard on air. The female news anchor is eyes are peeled open wide as if she just walked in on her son masturbating then darts them back at the camera. A second passes before her brain kicks and the fake smile returns “It looks like Reed is helping the cameraman with a technical issue right now. While we wait we have a direct line to the Director of Defence, Dean Sergent” A scowl so scornful the visual glitches briefly falls on her face. “I thought we had director of defence on the line” She angrily whispers off set to someone “We did. That's his name! ” A women whispers back “What? ” A cough brings her back to the camera. A picture appears on screen showing a decorated general in full uniform with a scowl so intense it could burn the sides of paper it was printed on. His orange bushy brows nearly drown his head while his bald scalp is poorly hidden by his hat “Yes, hello? This is Dean Sargent” “I thought you were director of defence? ” “No. Dean Sergent. Not Sargent Dean A voice immedaitely pipes up in the background. "Yes, Sir? " "Not you, son" He dismisses before continuing "I'm only on this line because the vice president demands I do some PR myself on this matter. So ask your question. I got a city to save" *“Well, my viewers want to know is why hasn't there been more of an organised reaction. So far outside of evacuations the actual defence has just been the tank force... ” * The anchor asked with a self satisfied glee, the kind that only comes with telling off someone important. “I'm sorry but we didn't prepare for a scenario where some aquarium boy romance with little Ariel hybrid came back to roost. We don't stack anti-heavy vehicle weaponry on our inner city bases as a rule. So we're scrambling to get what we can out there without causing too much damage” “Oh. I see” She looked almost disappointed at the answer before shuffling her papers and continuing “Our citizens who can't be evacuated in the major city area are afraid. Do you have any words for them? ” “Stay in doors and sell any stocks you got in pop eyes fish food. We're currently devoting all resources to intercepting the monster before it gets to the inner city. We're getting as many out as we can but there's just too many for a proper evac” You can hear him puff a cigar as he says the next words confidentially “The X-nomaly will die” A groan rings out again at the name and this time the news anchor looks around more fervently than before, leaning back in her seat while the distant yelling of Sergent can he heard promising to ass barbecue the soldier that just groan at him while he was on air. The sound of the phone hanging up follows shortly after. The news anchor straightens herself, reshuffling of her papers against her desk as she looks directly at the camera “We'll be back with more shortly. Stay tuned” 6 AM “Eagle Squad is on stand by” A muffled voice rattles into the radio of his cock pit from behind the bulky mask. He flips a series of switches, each one audibly awakening the guts of the jet. “Engines on. Boosters on. Back up on. Weapons on. Ready to go on your mark” “Confirmed. Eagle squad, prepare to launch” The bay hangar doors open and the team roll themselves slowly out before turning to align themselves on the flight path. Even from here they could see the smoke bellowing from the monsters rampage, gasps of now dying buildings that were getting closer and closer to the inner city. The handle nearly cracks as his finger dig into it with a defiant determination. “Not today” The the helmets in the domes on the jets behind nod to each other. All the context they needed for that was before them in the distance “You are go, boys, give it hell” The jet starts to jog along towards the runway, then run, then sprint as the engine wind up to a spinning scream and slowly takes off. The squad leader speared over the ocean gaping him and the city, the two following as they rose up higher and higher until cleared over the buildings ahead. The blurred city below him did nothing to hide the mangled corpses of what used to be cars, wrecked homes, and even the odd worrying glimpse splattering of tomato red as they blazed by. “Alright, team. Whatever it had in it hands was taking it's full attention. “Alright. Remember the order. I'm going in! ” The jet swooped a scream as it dive towards its back. The monster barely had time to react as rounds prickled its spine, leaving bruises and bubbling its skin an irritant red. Those massive teeth turned with a agitated growl, tossing the twisted up tank away as it did. The maw slowly opened, rumbling with a rising glow as the jet flew directly pass its face, booping its non-existent nose as it did. A stream of smoke popped from the jets back, leaving a red mist covering the creatures as its screamed out in rage. A beam aimlessly bursts, fizzling violently into the clouds miles away as it glowing eyes turned rapidly in an attempt to look through the fog around it. With the perfect moment at a half blind target, they all flocked around it and begun blitzing its body. Sparks and flames ignited in the crimson spill. The X-nomaly-GROAN- who said. Who interrupted my narration!? …. No one? Alright. The silhouette of the beast denied any detailed visual but even over the high pitch of their jet engines they could hear it stumbling from side to side as they snubbed it with missiles. Another beam spiralled out, causing one of the jets to arc off in reaction, missing the tip of its wing by a wide margin. A loud gasp sucked in a whirlwind of the fog into the now visible smile of the monster. Two long streams of the mist funnelled into its pit-like nostrils as it breathed in deeply. Those two glowing eyes fell upon them as its face jutted out of the mist, revealing a series of blue bruises on its jaw line. “No visible penetration. But it's hurt! ” The pilot sounded off optimistically. The trio briefly reunited together in a straight line “Keep up the attack. Twix. You're next. I want it kept blind and- SCATTER! ” Another beam narrowly misses the crew as they all barrel away. A single jet begins the long turn around, a long streak of white smoke following it like fluff escaping from a wounded teddy bear. Tentacles and claws sprawl out, swiping away sides of buildings and knocking apartment over like poorly stacked boxes, rupturing the roads below as it did. The jet sped into the messy mangle limbs and teeth as the giant flailed about. Their teammate disappeared in its fold like a fly intruding on an intense game of twister. A loud metallic crunch rings out not seconds later out as the smoke trail amasses around the two, leaving only a vague silhouette of the target once again. “No visual. I think it got Twix” There is no reply from the radio as the two begin to fly around for another go, despite the speed of their planes they each arc wide around the the creature as they they keep their eyes glued on the smoke cloud, expecting something to jump out. The seconds fly by as the smoke bulged out more and more over it. The radio voice shook them into action “The smoke cloud is still out. Attack now” The sounds of their machine guns filled their ears as they fired and didn't let go, turning their guns hot red. A pale face emerged from the cloud. A metal bird now visibly crushed between the interlocking teeth, a smoke cannister still coughing from the tail end now sticking out like a morbid tooth pick. It's green eyes locked on the advancing jet now driving into the face of the storm. “EAT THIS YOU SON OF SUSHI ROLL, MOTHERFUCKER! ” Tex screamed out. Sparks bounced across it's face, causing tiny irritable rashes on its skin similar to a skid knee before his missiles hissed forth, breaking off from the body as the pilot pulled up just in time to escape the snap of the monsters teeth. A large crack shook the scene, causing the two pilots to nearly 360 their necks with the force of their head turns. A large white tooth broke off, dribbling an inky, dark green substances from its root as it fell and crushed a nearby parked caravan below. A thumbs up followed from the captain to his team mate. Even with Tex's mask on as they flew side by side the smugness beamed from his cheeks. “Alright, Tex. Don't get a big head. It will make you an easy target. We still need a visual on this thing to see the damage” A roared broke out from the mist, followed by the unmistakable sound of wind breaking against something heavy. The two started to split again, putting a good distance between them before the sudden appearance of a busted, bloody, inky green covered jet joined them once again in the air and immediately collided against Tex. Bursting them both with metal, flame and dispersed white and blue smoke. The sole pilot immediately pulled up into the air as far from the now chasing high pitch screech. Narrowly avoiding another burst of green energy that shoot wide off into the clouds and bloomed it in radiating energy. “Tex is dead. Tex is down. They're both down. We hurt it, but it's still kicking. I don't know if we did anything that a dentist can't fix” The determined confidence moments ago scrambled into breathless panic as a few more shots of energy tailed him, dodging them each time with sudden rolls and bursts. “Roger that. Return to base. There's nothing you can do now. Your fuel time is nearly up anyway” The lone jet lowered just above the water as he watched the enormous monster slowly advance out of the dissipating smoke cloud. Light bruises spotted its pale skin, mild red irritation on its eyes and one single missing tooth with a minor trickle of goo dribbling out. He turned to face the now rising sun as he closed in on the landing path. “Roger” 7 AM The rising orange sun paints the sky in the messy mixtures of red and yellow over the silhouette of the approaching beast. Each thunderous step rattling furniture and announcing it's victory strut into the heart of the city. Smoke bellowed in the distance behind it, bonfires made up of former industry, homes and entertainment all signalling the end to come. Those pair of gibbous groves of energy bathed the sides of the buildings with a unfeeling, focused stare akin to a train headlamps. The streets were clear. The cars that couldn't drive away had jammed up the arteries of the roads, stopping anyone getting from away by vehicle. Many of the doors were left ajar as they ran for deeper into the city with all they could carry. Bags and knick knacks trailed into the subway system where the brave peaked up from before retreating back in. As the sun roses from the horizon into the sky, the monster crossed the now abandoned cop cars and military vehicles that barricaded access to the scene of its initial rampage. The now up close toothy grin big eclipsing any onlooker in near total darkness as it passed by a few high story windows. A few lines of cops and troopers stood gawking on the pavements, previously trying to keep the last remaining exiting cars organised and civil. Their hands shakily clutching their guns as the monster turned to the sky and let out one, mighty, victorious roar with its chest bared out in primal pride. A ringing echo broke the boasting as a bullet flashed against its side. The monster slowly lowered its head and turned to one of the high rise apartments, a single figure ejected a slug from a rifle and aimed at it without a word. His fingers started to rise up from up the building, cloaking the balcony in shadow. It's claw stopped as another ding rang out, this time from the formerly stiff solders on the road before it. Freezing the monster in its track as it turned to the atmosphere cutting sound of more guns cocking and aiming at it from the line. Another bang followed from an open office window, and another from the low roof top of a single man with a hunting rifle, then a ratatata from a sedan with a well dressed man on the street with a UZI. Suddenly sparks rained in from everywhere, the windows all came alive, clouds of lead storming down on him from the once silent homes. The monster snarled, showing off the bleeding gum from its uprooted tooth as shells bounced off its skin like fire flakes from a firework. The green bloom within crawled up its throat as its snarl grew into a growl and spittle spewed between its bloody teeth. A single glass broke against its skin, flung by some stumbling figure from a bar below, putting a small patch of fire on its legs as the Molotov ignited. The lone, clearly intoxicated individual flung a middle finger as it took another swig of something. The growl splits its mouth as it aggitation grew before the shower of bullets zoned in on its eye, drowning it in constant pricks until it started to leak a tear of pain, making it clap over it with a moaning, weak roar. The monster stomped on a nearby bus, causing a resounding crack as it let out one more fierce roar to the heavens, bullets storming inside its mouth. Within a second that primal scream turned into a confused gurgle as the beam inside was clapped back down and loudly gulped a good couple of tons of spent lead. A few of its teeth cracked as the bullets went on. Your heart hurts, it feels empty, the glow visibly drips like melting wax from your amassing wounds. You pick at now one of you many chip teeth only to have it snap off like a twig in your fingers, causing a mournful grumble to bubble up before you spit out a few more bundles of bullets and green, inky blood. You need to rest, some rest will do you good. You cannot run anymore.
