Ark is an amazing game with amazing developers who have constantly fed our unrelenting and insatiable desire for new creative content, bug fixes, and gameplay balances. Whether each individual liked or disliked changes made, everyone has to respect the effort and desire put into making this game as great. Further, the experiences on the server widely vary: Cooperative friendly servers who build magnificent construction projects, small tribal warfare servers, and servers with larger super power tribes to name a few. I’d like to outline the amazing up and down roller coaster of events that has led Official 47 to be one of the most interesting gaming experiences I’ve ever had, with a constantly shifting power and political landscape that whether positive or negative, never gets boring. The events listed are outlined by short conversations with other players on the server, global chat, seeing tribe name changes and player tribe changes and some speculation based on this information. (It would be an amazing story to get a complete account from all players on all sides if only they could be trusted to give the facts; however, I doubt Legion or GtH would do so honestly because of the chaos and resentment between them. ) When I started playing on O47, it was quiet, small power struggles, little bits of fighting and in general lots of growing and cooperation. Enter DGG, superpower Chinese gaming tribe. The fertile lands and wonderful feats of construction became a barren wasteland of war and death. Every night, when western civilization was in bed, the power from the east would charge in on their war dinosaurs and rain destruction on anything in their path. It was a time of fear. It was a time of death. But it was a time of growth and hope, for DGG could level buildings and kill dinosaurs, but they couldn’t take away experience. The people grew, they became stronger and smarter, but most importantly they banded together. The white knights, tribe GtH, allied with other peoples of the server (United Tribes Against DGG) vanquished the mighty communist oppressors and brought an age of peace back to the server. Tribes began to grow and thrive, and under threat of retaliation from GtH, raiding became scarce. A cautionary tale this is however, for absolute power corrupts absolutely. GtH began to get involved in even the smallest of grievances, living by their motto “Fuck up, get fucked up” and weighing judgement on tribal affairs that should have remained between the two tribes; growing stronger as they pillaged the tribes deemed guilty and striking fear into the server. The seeds of resentment started to blossom, GtH became referred to unaffectionately as the ‘server police’, and many outside their circle of allies felt they greatly abused that power. Enter the other large player in this tale, a small tribe from questionably humble beginnings, ‘A Sneak of Weasels’. Their growth started slowly and was not without contention. Having a sizeable home in the south, during the times of DGG they were attacked by a much stronger tribe led by Narmar. Cries for aid went unanswered with the DGG threat still looming as an unrelenting overnight assault was held at bay for many hours until their defenses fell and base was overrun. With their tails between their legs the crippled tribe relocated somewhere up north and started the slow process of rebuilding from nothing. (This is secondhand information, though seems legitimate enough) Later on (well after the DGG war was over), in a coordinated attack, Chuckapoo, a few other tribes and a Sneak of Weasels hit the Narmar cave and rained death upon their dino’s in a retaliatory strike for some accidental(? ) dino death. Queue server rollback, the battle was negated. This did not matter, for the nefarious duplication bug and the cheaters who employed it caused a server wide wipe in the days following the assault. Soon the beaches would be flooded with naked survivors rushing to reform or make new tribes and claim the best pieces of land. At some point around this time, the tribes ‘A Sneak of Weasels’ and ‘Mars needs Women’ merged, the start of ‘Live to Win’. Early after the wipe Bmac and Narmar, with a few others (discodoug and kolde included) began to again annoy the server (and myself), with both raids and threats in chat. ‘Live to Win’ was raided by them again and had their dino’s killed and loot stolen. However this time they were prepared. The server chat was shocked to see that not long after that raid, ‘Live to Win’ hit back hard, marching down the river with a Rex and supplies(hidden at another base? ) annihilating their attackers. ‘GtH’ captured BMAC and held him in a box, breaking his will and causing him to quit the server, while ‘Live to Win’ did the same thing with Narmar. This apparently broke the will of Kolde and Discodoug as the server was soon free of all of their presence. (Good riddance, they raided this historian as well) The server continued to grow under the policing of GtH with some small hostilities and some unsolved raiding(sucks, but credit for being sneaky and tranqing dino’s instead of killing them). ‘Live to Win’ seemed to use this time to recruit and grow, I couldn’t go anywhere around Red or Blue without running into a decent sized base of theirs, each stocked with dinos. The fireworks begin. Amongst the usual grievances in global chat over smallish issues ‘Live to Win’ has some tames sniped, and the member taming loses his shit and threatens a whole section of the map. It was a huge reaction but I sort of sympathize especially if they were long tames. Tensions are now a little high on the server as global chat picks up and there is a lot of accusations, threats, and general saltiness. A few nights later, I’m in my cool little stone building organizing my storage crates well past midnight CT when the first comments start hitting global. GtH is hitting Live to Win, a strong tribe who I thought was generally friendly with the other(shows how misleading global can be sometimes) was out in force against them. It was clear something was afoot, there hadn’t been that many GtH members on at the same time in quite a while, and at that strange time it screamed something would happen, but shocked that it was Live to Win. There were some members of Live to Win on, so there was a possibility of defense depending on what they were doing and where they were, but it was clear through chat that while drawn out, it was a one sided battle well planned by the aggressors. GtH ripped through Live to Win bases, the simple response “You guys are big and we got bored” from a GtH leader(wtf??? ). The next day a flight around the map showed shells of destroyed looted and abandoned Live to Win bases, I was sure they would quit the server, especially after the assault continued. GtH apparently didn’t attack alone over the next few days, JKM, a tribe that constantly touts peace, and Flint Brothers, a tribe with a senseless twat for a leader who constantly pours his saltiness into general chat, joined in the attacks on Live to Win, keeping them down and continuing the push. Another large tribe wasted. I went about my business happy I’m now situated nowhere near any of those Live to Win bases. There was no mercy, GtH, one of the few tribes with any power of decision allowed full on KOS of any Live to Win members. The police are now a militant force. A few days after the initial assault, and global chat is filled with the irate rantings of Flint Brothers. Their cave base was hit and destroyed. They were allied with GtH, but the accusations from Darkholis(leader) flew all around hitting many different tribes. Was it GtH? Did they turn on another tribe they were friendly with? Eyes were poised on global chat, it is well known Flint Brothers are a liability to anyone who wants to have an aura of peace and authority. Live to Win takes credit for the assault, and I’m sure I’m not the only one of the server who thought that was a load of garbage, Live to Win had been getting their shit pushed in for several days. Further banter in general chat, lots of saltiness on all sides ensues. Chat was moving so quickly it was hard to read and play at the same time. This historian called it an early night and went to sleep with hopes that my base and tribe manage to stay unscathed throughout this chaos. The next day I could not believe my computer monitor. ‘Live to Win’ is no longer a tribe. They are not gone, quite the opposite. GtH was hit, hit hard – raided and pillaged with few dinosaurs surviving. ‘Live to Win’ had changed their tribe name to ‘We are Legion’ and over the next several days finished off Flint Brothers, and hit GtH’s other ally, JKM, killing every dino, returning the punishment enacted on them. It appears GtH and their allies were subjected to their own motto, they fucked up turning some Weasels into a Legion and in doing so got fucked up. It’s been tense on the server in the days since, the war is now only being fought by GtH and We are Legion, but it appears there is an attempt at brokering a peace by some other tribes, likely because they are sick of seeing GtH whining as Legion continues to hit them to ensure they don’t get a foothold. Just desserts from this historian’s perspective, GtH has too long been on the giving end of punishment. Other powers such as Church of Cragg and Scout Regiment(it looks like True Sith of Exar Kun and the Amazonian Raptors are also involved but they really haven’t been relevant at all in the past month, funny how that works) are attempting to negotiate that peace and form a “Tribal Council” for the server. GtH was given terms of some sort by We are Legion, which they declined, and thus the war continues. The outside perspective looks like GtH abused their power and finally attacked the wrong tribe. Talks of peace are sort of silly, after that first intense onslaught by GtH, I personally would never let GtH grow to fighting strength again, and they’ve shown their true colors to the whole server. At the very least, I hope the tribes see enough sense to not include them in any council, they’ve had enough negative influence on the server acting as ‘police’. As for Legion and the rest of the server, only time will tell if the council concept holds and is put in place, and further if it will succeed, or if some new sense of order will come out of it. Will the server become a peaceful place full of hippies and ‘just builders’? Will it descend into chaos? What further actions will be taken by We are Legion? Will GtH rise back to power? Will tribes move servers? Will Scout Regiment or Church of Cragg want to step up to take control? Will the True Sith of Exar Kunn(sorry hatter but you guys aren’t what you used to be) or Amazonian Raptors(lolz at them for trying) ever be of any legitimate relevance on the server? (Funny coming from this author who stays out of things, yes, but I don’t try to sound important in general like them) It’s been an action packed few weeks and there are so many questions that only time will answer. It's amazing to see how events in this game can twist and the unexpected can happen. Tribes have fully seen the cost of letting one tribe have too much power, the cost of being in an alliance with others(JKM/Flint), and that no tribe is ever fully down and out.
