My very first impression was "that girl looks just like Illyana Rasputin". Then I found out it was a New Mutants still and, yes, that was Illyana. level 2 Hell yea, Magik rules. Without credits and extra scenes it was roughly 90 mins level 2 To be honest, that's kind of refreshing, though. A lot of MCU and DC movies seem overly long. Shorter and tighter could have better pacing. Birds of Prey was ten minutes longer and I thought the pacing was a lot better than it is for most 2+ hour movies. level 1 The last time I remember a superhero movie being this short was Fant4stic. My immediate thought when Fant4stic's runtime was announced was, "There's no way they develop the 4 main characters and villain in that time. " Seeing that this is an ensemble movie, same red flags apply. Yeah, that casting - especially Bobby's (Cecilia's is terrible as well, I didn't realize that's who that was, or I forgot) - kind of ruins it for me. I don't think I'll pay money to see it, definitely not in a hurry, maybe just pass. Dude's whole origin revolves around his skin being dark and you pick this tone-deaf Christ. He and Sam are.. my favorite characters, and seeing them in a movie together should be a high point for me I don't hate the guy that's playing Sam either, but Sam has a very specific body type and that guy's is the opposite?, it seems like if Marvel cast those characters it's not what they would have done, and if they had I'd be even more upset (low expectations for Fox... ). My thoughts while watching this were: this will be the perfect movie to have Deadpool step in after the credits. Possibly picking up the children for colossus. Tying it to the greater MCU that Deadpool now a part of. Level 1 That... Doesn't look bad. My guess is that Illyana is gonna carry the weight of half of this movie. level 2 If anyone can carry a movie like this it's Anya Taylor-Joy. She raised Split several points. level 2 She rightfully should. I just hope she doesn't get fucked up the way Rogue and Juggernaut did. Fox can't handle mutants who's main powers come from non-mutant sources in Marvel Lore. No Belasco, no proper Magik.
